The impact of verbal working memory on written translation: Empirical evidence and an initial model

Working memory refers to a metaphorical mental workspace involved in the temporary storage and processing of information which has been considered key construct Cognitive Translation Studies. This study investigates whether verbal working translator’s first and/or second language is related written translation speed quality. Through three selection tests, 33 student translators or third year their Master’s Interpreting at nine Chinese universities were selected participate. In test, capacities assessed separately by means dual-task paradigm implemented e-Prime software suite. study, participants translated technical text from language. Their behavioural data collected with keylogger quality translations was evaluated four expert translators.
